The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), in an administrative reshuffle, appointed new district commissioners for Dharkeenleey and Waaberi districts on Thursday.

Omar Meeyre Mocoow has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Dharkeenleey District, replacing Mahmoud Haji Ali Fiidoow.

Hussein Hassan Mahmoud has been named the Commissioner of Waaberi District, succeeding Mohamed Sayid Ali.

Mayor Muungaab urged the newly appointed governors to prioritize the development of their respective districts.

He insisted that the city leadership should push their focus on enhancing cleanliness and delivering essential services to residents, a statement shared with Radio Generation read in parts

He emphasized the importance of advancing the welfare and infrastructure of Mogadishu’s districts to improve the quality of life for all citizens.

The Mogadishu boss said the changes, "are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen local governance and ensure efficient service delivery across the city’s districts."

Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia, is the country's largest and most populous urban center, serving as its political, economic, and cultural hub.

Located along the Indian Ocean, Mogadishu is home to key government institutions, major businesses, and educational centers.

Administratively, the city is divided into 17 districts, each overseen by a district commissioner under the authority of the Benadir Regional Administration.

These districts include Hodan, Hamar Weyne, Hamar Jajab, Waberi, Bondhere, Yaqshid, Daynile, Abdiaziz, Shangani, Karaan, Dharkenley, Warta Nabadda, Kahda, Shibis, Heliwaa, Boondheere, and Huriwaa.

Less than a month old in the office, the Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hussein, is tasked with the huge responsibility of overseeing the region that serves as the center of Somalia’s federal government.

Mogadishu hosts all major institutions, including the Presidency, the Office of the Prime Minister, the Federal Parliament, the Supreme Court, and all federal ministries.

It is also home to national security agencies and diplomatic missions, making the city the heart of governance, policy-making, and international engagement in Somalia.
